Carnival  2001 Passeio Equestre Carnavalesque

The first Carnival Cavalcade of Vila do Bispo took place on 27th February. Some 16 horses and ponies gathered in the Largo da Feira, praying that the rain would hold off, and the wind would not be too gusty!

After a circuit of Vila do Bispo, the riders, followed by some six cars, set off down to Sagres. The minor road was shortly left for dirt tracks, and some stretches cross country, which even the 4x4s had trouble following. Joining the main road again on the outskirts of Sagres, the ride was escorted by a Guarda Nacional jeep into the centre of town.
The return journey was mostly along the same route. (A circular route had been intended, but public bridle paths had been fenced off, which the council should now be attending to, as council members were among the riders)

Even a spectator was on horseback The cavalcade goes over the hill before setting
out across country

At the end of the cavalcade a Lunch and Prize Giving were held in a restaurant in Vila do Bispo.
Our thanks to the Cāmara Municipal de Vila do Bispo, Tiffany's Riding Centre and the G.N.R. for a really enjoyable day.
